About US

Thanet Early Years Project is a small charitable organisation who specialise in providing good quality childcare and education to children under the age of 5 years. Our aim is to provide services in areas of socio-economic deprivation, working with children and families in order to afford all children the opportunity to reach their full potential and improve outcomes.

As a registered charity, Thanet Early Years Project has a board of Trustees, all of whom are volunteers. The Trustees of the Project devolve their responsibilities to the Project Manager, who is responsible for maintaining the services and for developing the project in line with current trends, legislation and local needs. The Trustees receive regular updates from the Project Manager at the monthly trustee meetings.

Thanet Early Years Project (TEYP) was established in 1987 and originally offered sessional day care for children aged from 2.5 years up to 4 years in various locations around Thanet. However, as time passed TEYP recognised the need for change and subsequently took positive steps to extend its services by way of extending the hours of operation and lowering the age range of children being cared for.

Thanet Early Years Project currently offer full day care services at four different locations within Ramsgate. Three of these settings are situated within local Children's Centres and provide good quality childcare and education to children aged from 3 months up to 4 years. In addition, TEYP offer childcare and education to children aged from 2 up to 4 years on the grounds of Thanet College. This setting is open to everyone, however many students from Thanet College take advantage of having onsite childcare.

Crèches

In addition to our full day care nurseries, Thanet Early Years Project provides sessional crèches in various locations throughout Thanet. Our crèches generally last between 1.5 hours and 3 hours, however on occasions we may provide crèches that last up to 7 hours. Because our crèche services often take place regularly at any one location, TEYP have taken advantage of ensuring, where possible, the crèches are registered as part the Ofsted Voluntary Register.

Offering good quality care to children and babies aged from 3 months up to 4 years, TEYP pride itself in maintaining a bank of good quality staff who work hard to meet the individual needs of the babies and children for whom they care.

Multi-agency Working

Thanet Early Years Project is committed to multi-agency working.  We work in partnership with other agencies, such as Thanet Basic Skills Agency and Sure Start to provide childcare services for parents accessing education courses and other activities.  The TEYP also work in partnership with Action for Children and Kent County Council, providing services to help promote and manage the "Play and Learn Scheme" (PALS) in Ramsgate.

The Play And Learn Scheme

The Play And Learn Scheme (PALS) has been operational since 1999, however, up until 2010 TEYP worked in partnership with KCC and the NSPCC, taking lead responsibility for the employment of the play workers. The day to day management of PALS lay with the NSPCC whilst KCC provided financial support. Following a restructure in 2009, NSPCC withdrew from the PALS service. As a result, on 1 April 2010, TEYP took over the management of the PALS service with support from Action For Children and KCC.

The Play and Learn Scheme (PALS) service currently offers a targeted play service to families with babies and toddlers living predominately in Ramsgate. PALS offers home visits from experienced, friendly play workers, with the aim of promoting interaction and communication between parent and child through shared play activities. It also offers group sessions where parents can work together as well as regular fun activities and outings for families it supports.

The play workers role is to support individual families with parenting skills and child development in areas as diverse as speech and language, concentration, social skills, etc. Facilitating the growth of 'play' within the family is an end in itself but PALS workers also harness play as a tool to assist families with interaction, relationship building, behaviour, creativity, etc among other development objectives

How Thanet Early Years Project is funded

TEYP is a voluntary (Third Sector) organisation who have charitable status and also a company limited by guarantee.

TEYP take every step possible to ensure it remains financially viable and this is achieved through keeping a close eye on how it uses it revenue whilst maintaining quality in all of the services provided.

Whilst we endeavour to be self sufficient, some of our services would not be able to operate without the ongoing financial support provided by the Local Authority.

Other forms of revenue received into TEYP include Nursery Education Funding for children aged 3 - 4 years and the Free for 2 (Pilot) year old funding. TEYP also receive nursery fees from parents and funding from organisations, such as the Big Lottery.

Since starting up for business in 1987, TEYP have continued to flourish and fulfil its commitment to provide good quality care and education to children under 5 years.
